MANCHESTER FILM COOPERATIVE PRESENT ....
The resurrection of Man and BBQ The Resurrection Man (1998) explores the deeds of the Loyalist Shankhill Butchers in 1970s Belfast, who killed upwards of 30 people, mainly Catholics but also a significant number of Protestants, in sectarian attacks, paramilitary feuds, personal grudges and bombing raids. Their story is told as a retrospective by Victor Kelly, a criminal and ruthless murderer who is the leader of a gang of men known as 'Resurrection Men'. Victor's cruelty makes him a local legend, both feared and venerated. On his trail is Ryan, a journalist, driven by his own personal demons and by an obsessive need to discover the truth. Loosely based on real events, this is a disturbing, chilling look at one of the more gruesome episodes of Northern Irish history. Discussants for the film are Jim McAuley, Professor of Irish Studies at the University of Huddersfield, and Jon Tonge, Professor of Politics at the University of Liverpool.
Date: Tue 21st Jul '09 Starts: 7.45pm Venue: Upstairs Tickets: £3

Kings Arms
Under the management of Jon Cooper, the King's Arms has undergone a transformation as both a real ale outlet and a
multimedia arts centre. The pub is tucked away on Bloom Street, off Chapel Street, Salford and on a recent visit the real ales
included Deuchers, London Pride, Taylors Landlord and two from the Broughton based Bazens' Brewery.
The Kings recently held the premiere of the award wiinning play 'Salford Stuffers'. It hosts regular music, film and poetry evenings. There is an art film night on the first Tuesday of each month, where you can order a pre-film curry. Food is available daily and the pub now has a beer garden.
So if you like culture with your real ale, the Kings is well worth a visit. Contact the pub on 0161 832 3605. For information on future events, call 0161 839 8726.
THE GUARDIAN GUIDE - Preview: Bars (30th April '05)
"Culturally, Salford has always existed in Manchester's shadow. However, in the King's Arms (admittedly, still only a few minutes walk from Manchester city-centre) the neighbour has a gem. Tucked away between new apartments and an industrial estate, under manager Jon Cooper this sensitively revamped traditional pub - ornate plasterworks and stained glass joined by modern art and big, chunky tables - has become a thriving arts hub: various leftfield creative outfits taking over the great domed performance space upstairs. Keane (secret gig) and the Guilty Pleasures club have visited recently, but it's locals like theatre collective Studio Salford and alt-country night Rain or Shine that have forged the King's reputation. Downstairs, meanwhile, the older regulars: real ale drinkers and dolled-up middle-aged women, get along fine with the bohemian thirtysomethings and students. A relaxed one-off."

12 - King's Arms, Salford
"Previously a little-known back-street boozer, thanks to the vision of manager Jon Cooper the King's Arms has become a haven for Mancs looking to host leftfield theatre/poetry/music events. The King's old (real ale) regulars - 'a cultured lot anyway', insists Cooper - happily rub along with the trendies, punks and theatre types.
Décor: A stunning glass domed roof.
Must try: Either the Rain or Shine night, a spin-off from electrotrash riot Chips With Everything that is putting the alt in alt country, or discerning house shindig El Diablo Social Club."
